Snowboxx is an unforgettable experience, combining top skiing, world class performances at unique locations, a jam-packed schedule of side activities and a stay at one of the best ski resorts in the world. A ski trip, a music festival and a holiday combined into an incredible package!

We have put together this FAQ with some of the common questions we receive, however if you need a hand with your booking or want to find out more about the event feel free to reach us via email, phone or live chat. We are always happy to hear from you!

The festival
Where is Snowboxx?

Snowboxx takes place in the ski resort of Cardrona, a top tier ski destination in the Southern Alps. Cardrona is New Zealand’s most popular ski area, attracting all kinds of snow enthusiasts – from beginners & families, to Olympic & X Games athletes. There are plenty of pistes and parks for all levels, and loads of off piste entertainment too! The nearest airport is Queenstown, New Zealand.

What are the dates of the festival?

Snowboxx 2020 will be held from Tuesday 8th September to Tuesday 15th of September.

What’s included in the ticket?

Our ready-to-book packages are the best way to get your group holiday sorted.

  • Standard package: Festival wristband + accommodation

The price per person will vary depending on the size of your group and the range of the accommodation. Prices start at $440 per person for a 7-day stay - that includes accommodation and festival wristband!

What about lift passes

Lift passes are not included in the price of the packages (that would be too good) but you can add these during the booking process and enjoy a hefty discount!

What is the festival program like?

During the day you can enjoy the pistes of Cardrona and Treble Cone, or start the day with one of our legendary bottomless brunches. Once you are done with the shred you can, literally, ski into one of our epic après sessions.

On Thursday and Saturday evening, world class headliners take over our main stage, a massive open air arena right by the slopes. Music at the main stage finishes at 21:00 so you can enjoy incredible performances at this unique location and still make it to the first lift in the morning. However, if you want to dance the night away the party carries on at the downtown venues until the early hours.

How does the deposit scheme work?

You can reserve your spot at the current price with only a $100 deposit. The remaining balance can be paid at any time before the final balance date. This date varies depending on when you book.

Your final balance date can be found both on our booking site (during the booking process) and on your booking confirmation once the booking is completed. We will also send you a reminder to give you enough time to finalise any payments. Please add our address to your contact list to ensure you receive your reminder

What are the snow conditions like in Cardrona in September?

Cardrona’s high elevation and southerly aspect mean dry natural snow is plentiful. Historically early September is the best time of the year to enjoy deep snow, higher chances of bluebirds and less crowded pistes!

Besides the skiing and the music events, what else is available?

A week of skiing and raving is already an epic plan but there is a lot more to do at Snowboxx! The week is jam-packed with exhilarating activities, from legendary bottomless brunches to hilarious inflatable races, and the unmissable skim pool. If that wasn’t enough, there is also an excellent selection of food (and wine) across the resort and Wanaka, paired with great kiwi hospitality.

What is the closest airport?

Wanaka is located in the South Island of New Zealand, with three international airports in close proximity: Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch

Queenstown Airport is the closest international gateway to the Wanaka region, with regular flights from all major Australian cities, as well as daily services from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and is just a scenic 60-minute drive from Wanaka.

Do you provide transfers?

Snowboxx offers transfers from Queenstown to Wanaka. Our transfers will pick you up at the airport and take you to the arrival point in Wanaka, making your journey super easy.

There are two types of transfers available:

  • Standard: Coach from Queenstown airport to Wanaka town centre. Between 1hr 10 - 1hr 50 journey dependant on road conditions.
  • Speedy: Shared minivan from Queenstown airport to Wanaka, about 1hr 10 journey

Transfers can be added during the booking process and via manage booking.

Which days do transfers operate?

Our transfers operate on the following days. If you need to travel outside these dates you will need to arrange your own transportation:

  • Arrival days: Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th, Friday 11th and Saturday 12th,
  • Departure days: Sunday 13th, Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th.
What is the transfer timetable?

Our standard coaches will operate throughout the day, catering for arrivals on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th between 12:00 - 21:00, and catering for departures throughout the day on the 13th, 14th and 15th between 8:00 - 16:00.

When you arrive in Wanaka your transfer will drop you off at one of the various Snowboxx drop off points nearest to your accommodation. From there you may wish to either walk or book a taxi for yourself and your luggage that will then take you to your chosen accommodation.


Our speedy transfers will operate through the day catering for arrivals throughout the day on the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, and catering for departures on the 13th, 14th and 15th.

Speedy transfers are generally quicker to and from the airport, as the vehicles are smaller and the waiting time is therefore shorter. Once you arrive in Wanaka, you will be dropped off at your booked accommodation.

Once selected, please update your flight details within manage booking so we know when to book the transfer for you.

Where can I find my transfer information?

You will be sent a pre-trip email with all the important information for your trip such as transfer details a couple of weeks before you depart.

How do I get to and from the resort?

Return shuttle buses will be operating during the festival week from Wanaka to Cardrona. The Shuttle Bus Ticket will allow use of the shuttle bus during all operating hours of Snowboxx. Coming soon!

What is the age limit for the festival?

Snowboxx is for adults only. All festival related events are 18+

Can I book for shorter than the full week?

Yes, the minimum stay is 4 days (3 nights). However, we recommend staying the full week to make the most out of the experience! Note not all the apartments are available to book for less than a week so you may see less options if your selected dates are not the full week.

The main stage opens two nights a week, Thursday and Saturday. The main headliners will perform then.

We are a large group, how can we book?

Large groups may need to book more than one apartment. You can have a maximum of 12 people in 1 apartment (subject to availability). Check this by entering the number of people that you will attend with into the first screen of the booking page, all the available options will be displayed on the next step.

Do you offer any group discounts?

If you are booking for a large group of 9 or more people, you may be entitled to a special discount! You can inquire about this prior to booking by contacting info@snowboxx.nz. Discounts can only be applied during the booking process via the coupon code field and not post-booking.

Can I add someone to my booking?

Yes you can do that via manage booking. The booking balance will be adjusted automatically. If you have any questions about this feel free to contact our customer service team.

A person on our booking can’t make it anymore, can we change the name to someone else?

Yes, no problem. This costs $42 per person and must be completed online via the manage booking portal. Name changes can be made up until 17th August 2020 as the information must be given to the accommodation providers well in advance.

Can I cancel my booking?

As with any other holiday package, cancellation fees may apply. Please ensure you read the terms and conditions and agree to before booking a package. You can view our terms and conditions at any time here: https://bookings.snowboxx.com/terms.php

How do I pay the rest of my balance?

Payments are made via the manage booking portal which you can access through the booking confirmation you'll receive or the link on the footer of our website. Each member of the group can login and make payments using separate cards.

What do I get with VIP access?

The Snowboxx VIP upgrade adds that extra touch to the experience. Priority queues, raised viewing platforms over stages, private bars and more! Note VIP tickets are very limited, so book fast to make sure you don't miss out. You can upgrade your package via manage booking.

When will my ticket arrive?

Wristbands are to be collected in person at the event and won’t be sent to any address. You can collect your wristband with your booking ID and photographic ID - we recommend keeping the confirmation email handy for this.

We will detail where you will pick your wristband from in your pre-trip information document that you receive around 2 weeks before the event.

I’m a local, can I book a Snowboxx wristband and lift pass without accommodation?

Ticket only sales will be available nearer to the event date. You can also book a lift pass for the week of the event through us, which is a much better price than buying directly.

Where can I view the line-up / set times?

Line up will be announced in two tiers between March and April. Set times will be available via the Snowboxx app closer to the event.

How can I apply to DJ at the event?

Please email us at info@snowboxx.nz and your request will be sent to the relevant department. Please note that due to a high volume of requests, we can only get back to those who we would like to hear more from.
